In her commentary about the piece she writes: “The character is on the verge of entering a mysterious world about which he himself knows nothing. He doesn’t know whether he will like it there or not, but he will nevertheless move forward to meet the unknown.”

For this animated scene student Paulo achieves great lighting effects. The contours and shadows against the desert background and foreground add depth to highlight the barren environment.

In this basic shadow assignment, student Gary showcases extraordinary detail in his pirate sketch, from the strong facial expression, shading, and textures. From the shadow’s powerful pose and the vividly illustrated and fleshed out design, the result is a fully realized and narratively interesting character.

Inspired by Medusa, student Phong’s sea monster rendition is both terrifying and awe-inspiring. The bright color pairings are in stark contrast to the character design of the monster.
