The second course of the program, Digital Game Design: Getting Started with Perlenspiel begins next week! Offered by Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Exploration: A Closer Look at the Microgame API is taught by veteran game developer Brian Moriarty, inventor of the microgame engine Perlenspiel and author of several award-winning game titles such as LucasArts’ Loom.
A continuation of the topics first outlined in the first course of the program, Introduction to Microgame Design, this course will go deeper into Perlenspiel’s microgame application programming interface (API). Learners will develop their understanding of a variety of commands for controlling the appearance and behavior of beads, grid, and how the status line is presented and demonstrated. In addition to these core functions, students will get a comprehensive look at the subsystems that drive the animation, images, and pathfinding operations in Perlenspiel.
