In this new free course, Introduction to the Piano and Staff, learners will be introduced to the practice of reading music and playing the piano. From the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University, this is one of the few music performance courses to taught entirely online.

The course will use a combination of quizzes and video submissions (graded by ASU) to teach the basics of music literacy and introductory piano technique. No prior experience is required to get involved in this free course! It’s the first in the three-course Program Beginner Class Piano.

The course is taught by Hannah Creviston, Assistant Professor of Practice at ASU. On top of your scales, you will learn other core techniques for reading the staff and playing the piano. Video submissions mean you’ll get hands-on experience playing, and feedback from professional pianists.
