Introducing our newest upcoming Program, North Indian Classical Music. Learn the fundamental concepts, practice, and technique of the Hindustani musical tradition. This Program is being produced in partnership with the Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona and Ragasphere.
The intro course provides students a comprehensive understanding of the basic principles and instruments of Hindustani, or North Indian, classical music. Topics covered include concepts such as the Hindustani musical scale, melodic framework (Raga), and rhythm framework (Tala). Students will learn musical theory and apply them to their own unique performances using their chosen instruments. By the end of the course, students will have the building blocks required to learn advanced performance and composition.
A special feature of the course is MusicCritic, which is a new learning assessment feature created by the Music Technology Group of Barcelona to help instructors facilitate student progress. Performance will be measured and analyzed by an objective scoring system, a component designed to supplement instructor guidance.
Musician Nitin Amin will be instructing the course, along with special guests Yashaswi Sirpotdar and Sameehan Kashalkar. A performing flautist, Amin holds a Master’s degree in music and has taught a series of listener education workshops.
Session 1 of North Indian Classical Music I: Fundamental Elements is scheduled to start on March 27th, so enroll now!
